End of Life Doula (Death Doula)

An end-of-life/ death doula is a non-medical, heart-centered support person who provides emotional, spiritual, and practical care to individuals and families navigating death and dying. We walk alongside you during life’s final transition with gentleness, reverence, and compassion.

Whether you are approaching the end of life, caring for a dying loved one, or simply planning ahead, a death doula offers grounded support without judgment, honoring your values, beliefs, and wishes.

End of Life Doula Services

We help hold space for what matters most. That might mean creating legacy projects, sitting vigil, offering guided relaxation, massage therapy or Reiki, helping to facilitating family conversations, sound baths or simply being a steady presence in a time of uncertainty.

FAQ

1. What is the difference between a end of life doula and a hospice nurse?

A hospice nurse focuses on medical care—pain management, medications, and clinical tasks. An end of life (death) doula offers non-medical support: presence, emotional care, planning, and comfort. The two roles work beautifully together.

2. Is an endnof life doula only for someone who is actively dying?

Not at all. We can begin support months (or even years) before death. Some people seek out an end of life (death) doula after a diagnosis; others want to begin preparing in advance for peace of mind.

3. Can you help my family even if I’m not the one dying?

Yes. Caregivers and family members also need support. An end of life (death) doula can offer guidance, emotional space, and help facilitate open conversations or rituals to ease grief and fear.

4. Do you offer at-home visits?

Yes. Home visits are available within the Edmonton area, and we can also coordinate with care homes, hospitals, or hospice settings.

5. Is this service covered by insurance?

End of life (death) doula support is not typically covered by insurance, but we do offer flexible pricing and packages to accommodate different needs. If you choose to have palliative massage we are able to direct bill for that.

6. Can an end of life (death) doula be part of a home funeral or vigil?

Unfortunately at this time we do not offer this service. We would be happy to help answer any questions if we are able to.

7. I’m not spiritual or religious—can I still work with a end of life (death) doula?

Yes. This work is not about belief systems; it's about supporting what’s meaningful to you. We meet you exactly where you are.
