Service Description

Come indoors into the air-conditioned studio to learn the benefits of Yoga for Lymphedema. This summer session is all about learning practices to cool the body and reduce swelling, as you build strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. You will learn how to open your lymphatic channels through a combination of self-massage, poses, breath techniques, and meditation. Living with Lymphedema is both a physical and emotional experience. Yoga can help us lymphies connect to our mind-body-spirit, and find compassion, courage, and curiosity to keep Lymphin’ along! What does the class include? Each week Amy will be offering a Gentle Hatha Yoga + an education session about the lived experience with lifestyle tips & resources on various topics each week, such as skincare challenges, how to travel, how to tackle dense tissue, and ways to beat the heat of summer. Each week will include a 45-minute yoga class + 20-30 min. for a chat about a Lymphedema Lifestyle topic, and a chance to get to know other people in your community with Lymphedema. WHO IS THIS YOGA SERIES FOR? - People with Lymphedema in all shapes and sizes. Those living with primary, secondary, arm, leg, bilateral Lymphedema - Newly diagnosed as well as those living with Lymphedema for years. - People with Lymphedema who are interested in working on their health goals through mind-body-spirit, in order to live an empowered life with their condition. - People with Lymphedema who can get down on a mat on their hands and knees. ABOUT: Your instructor Amy Beaith-Johnson, has Lymphedema herself. Amy has had Lymphedema in her legs for 40+ years and has been practicing yoga for many years. She completed her 200-hour Hatha Yoga training in 2023 and is Registered with Yoga Alliance. She has been featured in a book, on blogs & magazines, and been a guest speaker at national conferences for her Lymphedema advocacy and approach to self-care. She is currently working on further certification through the Yoga Association of Alberta. She also has a 100-ho certificate in Ayurveda Training.
